What is a pre op for surgery?
before your surgery, you will be required to undergo a pre-operative assessment, often with a doctor. this assessment entails a hospital visit where various tests, such as chest x-rays, blood and urine samples, as well as heart and lung tests, may be conducted.

What is the procedure for pre op?
patients are typically brought to a designated area prior to surgery. an intravenous line (iv) is initiated at this stage if the patient doesn’t already have one. if necessary, a sedative may be administered through the iv to assist the patient in relaxing.

If the procedure is a one-day case with anesthesia support:
– obtain information about sedo-analgesia or monitored anesthesia from your surgeon or anesthetist, including application details and cost.
– complete the pre-procedure form (*add this document).
– undergo pre-surgery prep (clothing change and vessel line placement) by the nurse or anesthesia technician.
– rest in the emergency area for 2 hours after the procedure.
– do not eat or drink for at least 4 hours post-procedure unless advised otherwise.
– avoid driving or working immediately after the procedure.
– know who to contact for help at home post-procedure.
– stay with a relative on the day of your procedure.
– if under a general/regional anesthesia package, schedule a free consultation with an anesthetist at least one day before surgery.

General preparation tips and what to bring:
– follow fasting instructions: no food/drink after midnight for morning surgery or 6 hours before afternoon surgery.
– eating before surgery may lead to vomiting under anesthesia and serious complications.
– take a bath the night before and shave the operation area if advised.
– stop smoking and drinking alcohol 24 hours before surgery.
– manage medications carefully — ask your doctor especially about heart, diabetic, or blood pressure meds.
– remove jewellery, nail polish, false nails, and high heels. give personal items to a relative.
– learn about available services such as room options, special nursing care, and surgical prep steps.
– arrive early (around 8 or 8:30 am) and ask reception for assistance with hospitalization.
